Sollte der Gesetzentwurf so wie vorgelegt gebilligt werden, würden alle griechischen Mannschaften auf unbestimmte Zeit von allen internationalen Veranstaltungen ausgeschlossen, hieß es darin. Der mit Spannung erwartete Prozess in Griechenland gegen die rechtsextremistische Partei Goldene Morgenröte hat am Montag unter starken Sicherheitsvorkehrungen begonnen. European officials appear to be losing their temper with Greece’s leftist government, causing some of them to proceed to some -at least- scornful comments for the Greek officials participating in the ongoing negotiations regarding the country’s bailout program. According to an unnamed Eurozone official cited by German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Athens’ representative acted during the talks “like a taxi driver,” just asking for money rather than laying out the government’s plans for economic reforms. As the German newspaper said, the Eurozone officials were shocked by Greece’s lack of progress in presenting a completed plan during a meeting of the single currency’s Finance Ministers held in Brussels last week. On its behalf, the Greek Finance Ministry dismissed the report on Sunday, highlighting that “the newspaper will have difficulty justifying its headline and the content of its article,” adding that “such reports undermine the negotiation and Europe.”

Time is running out for Greece to broker a compromise that will allow it unlock the remaining €7.2 billion in its EU-IMF bailout needed to avoid a default, the bloc’s eurozone commissioner has said. In an interview with Bloomberg news on Monday (13 April), eurozone commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis said that technical negotiations between Greece and its creditors were “ongoing..and should go until the end of April” but added “time is running out”. A dispute between Germany and Greece over World War Two reparation claims has added to tensions between the two countries over Athens’ bailout repayments and the pace of its economic reforms, Euronews reports.  Greek deputy finance minister claimed on Monday that Germany owed Greece nearly EUR 279bn in reparations for the Nazi occupation of the country in the 1940’s. The opening of this border crossing, according to the sources, is quite realistic because it is in the interest of both countries and because it is not a political but practical measure. According to DPA, the IMF is a particularly harsh negotiator, while “European lenders are much more flexible than the IMF”.
