IMF Asks Greece to Cut Pensions and to Raise VAT

Greece intends to pay all of its commitments to lenders ad infinitum”, stated Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis after the crucial meeting he had with IMF director Christine Lagarde in Washington D.C, reports Crete Post.

Speaking to reporters, the Greek Finance Minister reiterated that the leftist government intends to push forward with “deep reforms for Greece”.

According to the German Press Agency, Lagarde asked for cuts in pensions, as well as a rise in VAT. According to DPA, the IMF is a particularly harsh negotiator, while “European lenders are much more flexible than the IMF”.

Lagarde was content with Varoufakis’s statement that Greece will meet all of its commitments to the Fund on April 9.
