Greek-Macedonian Situation Does Not Allow Progress in Name Dispute

The meeting between Kotzias and Nimetz did not give any special news giving that the current situation between Macedonia and Greece does not allow materialization of any initiative that could create real hope for overcoming the impasse of the name dispute.

This was written today in the Greek newspaper “Ethnos” about the brief meeting between Nikos Kotsias and Methew Nimetz held on Friday in New York.

Chief of the Greek diplomacy after the last week meeting with Nimetz and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said that they discussed the name dispute negotiations and the confidence-building measures.


“In Budapest, where I was two weeks ago, we have changed lists of points about the confidence-building measures and as we have seen in the past ten days, there is a match in the views about certain points that could serve as a starting point for dialogue”, Kotzias informed referring to the meeting with Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki in Hungary.

Das EM-Quali-Spiel zwischen Griechenland und Kroatien stand am Freitagabend kurz vor dem Abbruch. Hooligans stürmten den Gästesektor und warfen einen Molotow-Cocktail, Leuchtraketen und Rauchbomben. Wüste Szene beim EM-Qualifikationsspiel zwischen Griechenland und Kroatien vom 7. Oktober 2011: Nur drei Minuten nach Anpfiff flog im Stadion von Piräus mindestens ein Molotow-Cocktail in den Gästesektor. Der Spitzenkampf der Gruppe F war kaum angepfiffen, als griechische Hooligans den Gästesektor stürmten und Leuchtrakten und Rauchbomben in die Menge warfen. Ausserdem zündeten sie mindestens einen Molotow-Cocktail, der mit einem riesigen Feuerball zur Explosion kam. Nur weil dieser an eine Scheibe bei einem Aufgang geschleudert wurde und nicht mitten in die 700 Fans, passierte wohl nichts Schlimmeres. Diodorus Siculus and Herodotus recorded that it was the Egyptian Heracles who was the hero who performed the legendary 12 Labors, subdued the animals of the wild that had threatened the people, ushered in the building of cities, water systems, fortifications, and laws. Walter Burkert has estimated that this original Heracles was renowned as far back as 20,000 years ago. The Greek Heracles ended up receiving honors for the accomplishments of his predecessor, having the title of "Heracles", furthermore by the Bronze Age of Greece in which the Greek Heracles was said to have lived the taming of the wilderness had already been accomplished.
