Griechenland: Mehr als ein Fünftel lebt in absoluter Armut

Während in den meisten EU-Ländern die Armut statistisch gesehen auf dem Rückzug ist, steigt sie in Griechenland unablässig an. Ganze 22 Prozent der Griechen gelten offiziell als "arm". Die Realität ist jedoch deutlich schlimmer, weil die Statistiken die Wahrheit verzerren. Auch wenn Griechenland in Sachen absoluter Armut nicht an bulgarische oder rumänische Verhältnisse herankommt, so ist die Entwicklung der letzten Jahre äußerst bedenklich. Sind es in diesen beiden anderen EU-Ländern nämlich vor allem die strukturellen Probleme, die seit dem Zusammenbruch der kommunistischen Regimes eine signifikante wirtschaftliche Verbesserung verhindert, ist es in Griechenland vor allem die massive Austeritätspolitik.

UN Harshly Criticizes Greece for Treatment of Macedonian Minority

Greek authorities were harshly criticized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for the treatment of the Macedonian minority, Telegraf.mk reports. Deputy Labor Minister Ourania Antonopoulou, while presenting the report on Greece in front of the Committee for Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, pointed out that her country is trying to ensure the rights of minority groups, but said that it is clear that there is no Macedonian minority. "Greece firmly believes that the so-called 'Macedonian' minority has no relation to reality. There is a small group in northern Greece that speaks a Slavic dialect in addition to speaking Greek. The political group which represents this minority group won only 0,1 percent of the votes on the last elections. Stratfor's Languages and Dialects of Europe causes Anger in Yunanistan

US think-tank Stratfor released a map of European languages spoken on the continent, and not surprisingly good portion of northern Yunanistan (Aegean Macedonia) was marked as place where the Macedonian language is spoken. This caused an uproard in Yunanistan and Athens in particular where internet goers flooded Stratfor's Facebook page with offensive comments. In Macedonia, a tiny portion in the Northwest part of the country was marked as place where Albanian is spoken. Athens and then some is marked as area where Albanian is widely spoken.

Ninety – five percent of the countries in the world accept the name Macedonia, and we continue to discuss this, said Nikos Dimou, a member of the Greek political party “Potami” (River) when guesting the show on Sky television. The movie, entitled The People’s Revolution Upon the Ministers' Wives, has been produced by Sirina (Siren) Productions and can be included in the genre of “politicised or austerity porn”. “2012.
