Poposki : We do not discourage of radical positions of Samaras

Interview of Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki with portal Telegraf.mk ..

Greece should be included in the communication to resolve the name issue , FM said in the interview withTelegraf.mk

Day before leaving for New York , Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki said that there he will invited Greek counterpart, Evangelos Venizelos , to meet and discuss the name issue . According to him , the last round of negotiations with the mediator Matthew Nimetz showed that Greece comes out with radical name’s positions with when aim when there will be an inch more lenient attitude, that to be seen in public as a terrible aberration.

You had a meeting with Greek counterpar, I would say forced , given what happened after Samaras refused to meet with Gruevski. Now Venizelos announced that in New York will meet some Ministers from the region , but not with you. Was there an attempt to arrange a meeting ?

- From our side there is always an initiative . And always depends on whether Greece is ready and will confirm or whether they will find some excuse not to happen. Our goal is to have better communication and hopefully there will be opportunities to meet outside the multilateral meetings .

This means that you will invite Venizelos to meet ?

- Absolutely .

How do you comment on that that Mediator Matthew Nimetz first openly talked about the position of one of the parties , the Greek red lines ?

- For all is clear that the current political establishment in Athens has no particular interest to engage on this issue . They would be happiest if nothing happened and everything remains as it is now. There is an opportunity to do so , because is a member of NATO and the EU . From our side , we see how to provide incentives and opportunities for open communication . The fact we were blocked on the basis of the dispute and they do not want to solve it , is not the best option for all of us . Greece should be included in the communication to resolve the dispute . Probably all that observe the process see that Greece avoided dialogue or when there is a dialogue tries to create a perception that something is happening.

You want to tell ...

- When Greece must come up with an attitude, especially after movements by Nimetz , comes with most radical views, creating a climate that if offers something at least a millimeter leniently , it should be perceived in the public as a terrible concession . Obviously Samaras stick to the most radical positions and thus leaves no opportunity to move the process . That does not mean that we will be discouraged and will not let nothing happen .

Does the fact that Nimetz opens negotiations to the public helps? Obviously there is a difference when international observers will hear what are the Greek positions personally by Nimetz , not only by the Macedonian side .

- I would not go into the scope of his work , because he is Mediator between the United Nations and of course that seeks the best way to reach a solution . What we know is that we do not have any interest in surviving Greek alibi for making nothing is happening . Does increased transparency helps or hinders , obviously it is left to the assessment of the Mediator . After all , he said that in Skopje he heard well -known views on the Macedonian side , which I think are quite reasonable positions that offer opportunities to solve the dispute .

Will we succeed to put the dispute before the eyes of the U.S. and Europe , in a situation when ll deal with issues like Syria ?

- What it seems that often prevails is that with resolution or failure to resolve the dispute , not drastically increases or decreases security in the region . On one hand, Macedonia contributes for that , because we have fulfilled all the criteria for NATO and for a fifth year we are ready to negotiate with EU . We must emphasize the fact that we have interest to unblock these processes .

Nimetz has not left the region with excessive optimism . Is there an announcement that will convene a meeting in New York , taking the presence of the political leadership of both countries?

- He said he will try to intensify the negotiations , which means he will not be discouraged by the attitudes of Athens . I think it is best to leave he to choose the way in which he considers it is appropriate to move this process . We are prepared to get involved in the process and hope that the same will do and Greece.
