Fourteen Refugees, Half of Them Children, Drown near Greek Island of Lesbos
Tragedy struck again in the Aegean, with at least 14 refugees drowning after their boat overturned near Canakkale, as it was making its way to the Greek Lesbos island. Seven of those that drowned are children.
Additional 27 people on the boat have been saved from drowning. This is the latest disaster on the dangerous sea route across the Aegean, which hundreds of thousands of refugees, mostly from the Middle East, undertake on the Balkan refugee route. The refugees located in Turkey try to reach some of the larger Greek islands like Lesbos and Kos, and then wait for transportation to the Greek mainland before continuing their trip to Germany.
