Jean-Claude Juncker: Tsipras΄ Promises ‘Unlikely to Be Kept’

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said Wednesday that there could be a more flexible approach to Greece's debt crisis but recent elections have not changed the fundamental situation.

"Elections do not change treaties," Juncker said in an interview with the Spanish daily El Pais.

"It is clear that you can have another approach to the Greek crisis; there may be more flexibility, but Tsipras΄ victory does not entitle you to change everything," he said, referring to the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

Juncker said many of Tsipras' pre-election promises were unlikely to be kept and that this would have to be explained to Greek voters.

"Tsipras has the merit of having asked the right questions. But he has never given answers," Juncker said.
