Australian Greeks See Luke Simpkins's Statement as Superficial and Provocative

Statement of the Australian MP Luke Simpkins is superficial, provocative and the name dispute has nothing to do with politics and diplomatic recognition, it is anthropological and ethnographic, said Anastasios Tamis President of the Australian institute for Macedonian Studies.

MP from Pert Luke Simpkins accused the Australian Government of being biased when it comes to the name Macedonia and that the Greek Government is causing instability on the Balkans.

According to Simpkins, the reason why the federal governments refuse to call Macedonia with its constitutional name is because the both parties are afraid that if they make a decision in Macedonia’s favor, this will provoke the Australian Greek community to vote against those who made this decision.

The Greek professor Tamis say that the Greek people in Greece and five million of them in the Diaspora will never endanger their historical rights as Macedonian Hellenes and the name Macedonia will stay forever in their history.

“The whole population of 550,000 Australian Greeks appreciate the heritage of Greek Macedonia and will never offer their patriotism to other people, because the name represents their national identity and it is confirmed with their history and culture in the last 3,000 years”, stated Tamis.
