Macedonian Tourists Still Choose Greece as Their Favorite Destination

Nor the possible bankruptcy of Greece or its euro zone exit, can prompt hesitation among Macedonian tourists when it comes to planing their annual vacations.

The Greek beaches still remain top destination for Macedonians. Whether they decide to hire a touristic agency or arrange their own trip, Chalkidiki is the cheapest option.

Tour operators claim that some of the summer arrangements were made last year in October, and their Greek partners have not made any complains so far.

“There was a chance, after the announcements of the Greek Government, all-inclusive arrangements to be revoked, but we were informed that all the paid arrangements including breakfast and lunch had been accepted. Even if the drachma comes back, it will not make an impact on tourists", says Mile Spirovski from the Tourist agency in Bitola.


According to the information of the tourist associations, 50% of the offers had been purchased. The citizens are using the advantages of early bird payments in order to save money. Discounts for the early bird reservations mean that the arrangement should be paid until the end of February or March, and the whole amount at the beginning of the summer.

The discounts are usually 20% of the regular price in July or August. The reservations in January have 30% of discount, while those made in April get only 15%.

Employees in Dalas Union tourist agency say that Macedonians refuse to change their favorite destination despite the economy crisis in Greece.

FMW-Redatkion Die Sozialkassen in Griechenland schaffen derzeit eine Art parallele Staatsverschuldung. Da die annehmen, dass ihre Löcher aus den jetzt fließenden 86 Milliarden Euro vom 3. Hilfspaket nicht gestopft werden, haben sie angefangen in Eigenregie Kredite aufzunehmen. Da sie Rentenfonds, Krankenkassen etc staatliche Einrichtungen sind, erhöht sich damit per Saldo die Staatsschuldenlast Griechenlands noch weiter, auch wenn der Staat Griechenland kaum darum bemüht sein dürfte diese Extra-Schulden in seine eigenen Schulden einzurechnen. Aber Schulden sind Schulden. Wie die angesehene griechische Zeitung „Ekathimerini“ berichtet, hat das „Social Insurance Institute“ im August ein kurzfristiges Darlehen (wird wohl eine Dauerumschuldung) über 110 Mio Euro aufgenommen. 70 Mio davon gab man an seinen öffentlichen Versicherungsfonds weiter, 40 Mio davon an seinen kommunalen Versicherungsfonds.
