Meeting of Directors of Macedonian and Greek Railways

Director of Public Enterprise Macedonian Railways – Infrastructure Irfan Asani in Athens met with his Greek counterpart Panagiotis Teofanopulos.

At the meeting, they discussed the establishment of rail traffic between the two countries over border crossing Bitola-Kremenica-Kafkasos at the Corridor 10.

Asanas informed about the dynamics of the reconstruction of the railway from the Macedonian side with length of 16 kilometers, which will start this year and is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

On the Greek side, as announced today from the Macedonian Railways – Infrastructure, it was confirmed the station’s Kafkasos commitment to share border station, and was expressed willingness Greek Railways from own resources to reconstruct the building and additional facilities that can function as station at the highest level.

They discussed the increase in the intensity of freight traffic on the Corridor 10 and supported the idea of ​​the next steps for common points on the railway connecting to be realized the presence of line ministries.

It was given support for the efforts made by the Macedonian side for the construction of Corridor 8, especially the last section Kriva Palanka to the Bulgarian border, and for all projects funded through IPA, funds earmarked for modernization of Corridor 10 and the area for ​​designing and preparation of technical documentation for Corridor 8.

The meeting also focused on bilateral exchange capacities in the field of telecommunications for which there is possibility given the fact that the border belt Gevgelija – Idomeni has optical cable.

The visit to Athens follows the first meeting between the two executives, which was held in Skopje on 17 July last year.
