Greece Remains Main Obstacle for Macedonia's Euro-Atlantic Integration

The Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of Diplomacy, Evangelos Venizelos, held the last press conference within the Greek presidency with the European Union today.

As MIA's correspondent in Athens informs, Venizelos reported on Greece's accomplishments within the presidency which can, in fact, be downsized to various initiatives and not so many important projects.

He said himself that Athens has presided with the EU only for four months, due to the fact that Greece spent two months on municipal and European Parliament elections.


Regarding Macedonia, the Greek Foreign Minister reiterated that the name dispute is not a bilateral dispute but an international, outstanding, issue.

Regardless of the journalist's question, he repeated the stance he expressed couple of days ago in Brussels that regional stability, democracy, rule of law, respecting of Ohrid Framework Agreement, etc. is behind this issue.

With today's statement, Athens has confirmed once again that Greece will use all available sources within the European Council so that Macedonia is not granted a date to start negotiation talks.

In order to show that it actually does something for the Balkans, Greece organized the Ministerial EU-Western Balkans Conference, but only as a reminder of the Thessaloniki Summit held back in 2003.

"With the meeting in Thessaloniki, we have revived the memory of the Thessaloniki agenda," Venizelos stated today, confirming that the meeting was a pure formality.

Wenn man das umlegt auf die Gesamtsumme, wären das rein rechnerisch 1.190 Euro Schulden pro Stromkunde, aber bei 1,8 von 2,5 Milliarden Schulden durch gewerbliche Kunden dürften die Privatkunden natürlich deutlich kleinere Summen offen haben. Griechenland: Sozialkassen schaffen parallele Staatsverschuldung

FMW-Redatkion Die Sozialkassen in Griechenland schaffen derzeit eine Art parallele Staatsverschuldung. Da die annehmen, dass ihre Löcher aus den jetzt fließenden 86 Milliarden Euro vom 3. Hilfspaket nicht gestopft werden, haben sie angefangen in Eigenregie Kredite aufzunehmen. Da sie Rentenfonds, Krankenkassen etc staatliche Einrichtungen sind, erhöht sich damit per Saldo die Staatsschuldenlast Griechenlands noch weiter, auch wenn der Staat Griechenland kaum darum bemüht sein dürfte diese Extra-Schulden in seine eigenen Schulden einzurechnen. Aber Schulden sind Schulden. Wie die angesehene griechische Zeitung „Ekathimerini“ berichtet, hat das „Social Insurance Institute“ im August ein kurzfristiges Darlehen (wird wohl eine Dauerumschuldung) über 110 Mio Euro aufgenommen. 70 Mio davon gab man an seinen öffentlichen Versicherungsfonds weiter, 40 Mio davon an seinen kommunalen Versicherungsfonds. The movie, entitled The People’s Revolution Upon the Ministers' Wives, has been produced by Sirina (Siren) Productions and can be included in the genre of “politicised or austerity porn”. “2012.
