The governing political party in Greece, New Democracy, and the opposition party Syriza have clashed once again over the name of the Republic of Macedonia.

This morning, the Spokesperson for New Democracy, Anna Asimakopoulou, reacted to an interview given by Syriza MoEP candidate Stelios Kouloglou for the Macedonian news website Telegraf.mk, in which he uses Macedonia's constitutional name.

Asimakopoulou posed a question to Syriza's MP, Dimitris Stratoulis, asking how his party refers to Macedonia.

"How do you call Skopje? Do you call it Macedonia or Skopje? I am not sure. Do you call it FYROM?” Asimakopoulou asked angrily.

Stratoulis responded that the internationally recognized name of the country is FYROM, further avoiding to comment Kouloglou’s statements.

"But your candidates for members of the European Parliament call it Macedonia," Asimakopoulou said.

Syriza candidate for European Parliament member, Stelios Kouloglou, in an interview with the Macedonian news website Telegraf.mk last month, said he called Macedonia by its name "just like the rest of the world", and that "Samaras first started the ridiculous naming row".
