Greece Seeks to Rename “Transparency International Macedonia”

The Secretary General of the Greek Justice Ministry, Giorgos Sourlas, has urged Constantinos Bacouris, Chairman of Greece's Transparency International, to invest efforts so that the "neighboring country is called 'the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia' within this organization's bodies.


Sourlas called for immediate action, since Transparency International "has allowed its branch in the neighboring country to be called Transparency International Macedonia". In his view, it is inadmissible the name "Macedonia" to be on the organization's map.


Moreover, Sourlas backed his request by referring to the resolution on Macedonia's UN admission and the Interim Accord, under which the "provisional name of the neighboring country is 'the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia'."

Das EM-Quali-Spiel zwischen Griechenland und Kroatien stand am Freitagabend kurz vor dem Abbruch. Hooligans stürmten den Gästesektor und warfen einen Molotow-Cocktail, Leuchtraketen und Rauchbomben. Wüste Szene beim EM-Qualifikationsspiel zwischen Griechenland und Kroatien vom 7. Oktober 2011: Nur drei Minuten nach Anpfiff flog im Stadion von Piräus mindestens ein Molotow-Cocktail in den Gästesektor. Der Spitzenkampf der Gruppe F war kaum angepfiffen, als griechische Hooligans den Gästesektor stürmten und Leuchtrakten und Rauchbomben in die Menge warfen. Ausserdem zündeten sie mindestens einen Molotow-Cocktail, der mit einem riesigen Feuerball zur Explosion kam. Nur weil dieser an eine Scheibe bei einem Aufgang geschleudert wurde und nicht mitten in die 700 Fans, passierte wohl nichts Schlimmeres. By Samuel David Ewing It has occurred to me lately as I pondered about the next article for this section that the lineage, pedigree, or family tree of the Greek Heracles must be clarified once and for all. Diodorus Siculus and Herodotus recorded that it was the Egyptian Heracles who was the hero who performed the legendary 12 Labors, subdued the animals of the wild that had threatened the people, ushered in the building of cities, water systems, fortifications, and laws. Walter Burkert has estimated that this original Heracles was renowned as far back as 20,000 years ago. The Greek Heracles ended up receiving honors for the accomplishments of his predecessor, having the title of "Heracles", furthermore by the Bronze Age of Greece in which the Greek Heracles was said to have lived the taming of the wilderness had already been accomplished.
