“Republika”: Greece officially do not recognizes the Macedonian nation
Who lies who in the name dispute? The answer is very complex and when it comes to secret diplomatic scenarios, it is clear that everyone involved in the dispute lie or hide part of their activities. Even the great French leader Charles de Gaulle once said that it is almost impossible as politicians always to tell the truth and stay in power. However, what in last two decades the Greek party in power is doing, as well as many world diplomats who bring equality between the behavior of Greece and Macedonia, is beyond all political, diplomatic and human norms of behavior.
In an extensive analysis, the journalist Goran Momirovski for Republika, argues that Greece officially has not recognized the Macedonian nation.
Kurir Courier conveys the text published at the front page of the weekly magazine Republika, “The nationality and language depends on from the name.”
The Greek diplomats, journalists and scientists, who for the past decade communicate with Macedonian partners, as well as with the most of the internationals who come to this country and symbolically set their clocks on 5 to 12, consistently say that the only thing that is negotiated at the UN is the replacement of the temporary name in the world organization. They look us in the eyes and say that we need to compromise for a better future for our children. If it was the 16th century and Macedonia was part of the Amazon jungle, perhaps, their behavior would have been logical, but in the 21st century it remains the major dilemma if they are all feeble-minded; do they think that in Macedonia are living feeble-minded citizens and politicians or think that because of fear not to disintegrate the country we will accept insulting suggestions and change the name by our-selves.
Aside from public statements of the Greek politicians and experts, aside from the series of public messages that Greek officials for years between the lines or more directly create problems for Macedonian nation, one old document of the Greek state, which became popular in the public precisely formulates the position of the Greek neighbor to the so-called identity parts of name dispute.
The ex-Ambassador Risto Nikovski, for the document which for years is on the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and which on the same day when the Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister met with Macedonian counterpart Poposki in New York was promoted by the media, said it was turning point in negotiations for the name and after that Macedonian participation should be seriously reconsidered. According to him, after the statement of the position of Greek Foreign Ministry it was formally confirmed what Greeks really want in dispute. The text is intended to explain the name dispute to neutral and uninformed foreigners and Greeks, clearly highlight the official Greek position according to which the Macedonian nation is artificial and counterfeit creation.
This document is not new, for years it was part of the Greek diplomatic documents, which are distributed to foreign representatives and lobbyists, and was part of the old website of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Few years ago it was moved from less visible part of the page of Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens to the part that tells the truth about the name dispute.
Unlike Nikovski , who has an impressive informal documentation fot the name dispute, no one ever heard about it, this text has been thoroughly analyzed before and during the case ” Macedonia against Greek” at the International Court in The Hague, which Athens lost. In the ICJ ruling a person may even recognize a few denials of claims of the text by the judges. However, Nikovski is right, unlike all other charges set out in more or less informal atmosphere through the media or in public debates, this document has a specific serious gravity as it comes from an official institution, which is responsible for negotiations for the name. Due to blockade of the information associated with the name of the Macedonian government, it cannot be figured out the reaction of the mediator Matthew Nimetz to the document, but it is obviously that it can not be hidden any longer the fact that with the formal position of non-existing of the Macedonian nation directly violates his authority as correct negotiator. One who read the document may think that Nimitz is a liar as he is saying that the negotiations are related only to the name, the neighbors from the south claim that there is no Macedonian nation and therefore, beyond the mandate given by UN resolutions they are seeking to become godparents for, according to them counterfeit Macedonian nation.
There is no doubt that it is true for the Greek representatives who communicate with Macedonian colleagues and journalists. And according to them, it means that the new name will eventually determine the name of nation and language. According to this logic, which is the accepted at the level of strategy, the possible new compromise will determine the name and identity corp. So, for example, if, an agreement for the Republic of Northern Macedonia is reached, as is reported to be the proposal of the mediator in one of his last set of ideas, the name of the nation, in Athens, must be Northern Macedonian and Northern Macedonian language. Although, according to the international law and practice, this is directly contrary to the principle of self-identification and self-naming, Greece insists on this issue until the very end, which means the end of the name dispute is far away.
