Macedonian Govt still delusional as its gets response from Samaras

A response of Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to the letter of Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, arrived yesterday, officials of the Ministry of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirmed to local media. In it Samaras expresses no will for concrete, intensive dialogue for the name row settlement within the UN-mediated process, transferring the blame for the blockade of Macedonia's integration to the European Union.

"We are fully committed to surpassing all possible misunderstandings, including this artificially imposed dispute. That's exactly why we have launched an initiative for the highest-level dialogue, namely to express our wish for settling the problems. It means full dedication and desire for the region's EU integration. In this manner Samaras doesn't say he wishes the same. He doesn't prefer focusing on the need of progress and positive advancing of the process. We believe that grater commitment is needed now, as well as a relation that will bring our countries closer and the region into the united Europe. We will bolster our efforts to that effect," MoFA says.

At the onset of this month Gruevski sent a letter to his Greek counterpart Antonis Samaras proposing ways to overcome the deadlock in the negotiations aimed at settling differences regarding the name of the country.

The two countries would benefit from a name solution, which "at this moment is not possible since negotiations are not improving as they should and as it is expected," the letter reads.

Consequently, Gruevski proposes to Samaras teams chaired by the two prime ministers to be set up that would directly discuss ways to settle the dispute.

Gruevski points out that the bilateral negotiations would be held within the frameworks of the mandate of UN mediator Matthew Nimetz focused on finding a name solution.

Gruevski asks Samaras' support for opening of Macedonia's EU accession talks. They will not only contribute to a brighter future for the two countries and the region, but also create a better climate for successful resolution of the name dispute, according to the Macedonian Premier.

Both countries share excellent economic and interpersonal relations, whereas Macedonia is committed to nurture and enhance those relations, including the realization of joint projects. This requires the overcoming of differences burdening bilateral relations, the letter reads.

Gruevski says the Republic of Macedonia appreciates Greece's commitment back in 2003 for accession of the entire Balkans in the EU, adding it should not only support the start of EU accession talks but be a partner in those negotiations. The name dispute represents an obstacle, with Greece enjoying the advantage of its EU and NATO membership, while Macedonia the support of the international law. The row must be overcome, benefiting both countries.

"The Republic of Macedonia sincerely wishes Greece to be a partner and supporter of our country in opening membership talks with the Union," reads the letter.
