Macedonia: Athens incites row between Skopje and Brussels
Ruling of the International Court of Justice in the Hague and the resolution of the European Parliament (EP), which was passed a month and a half ago, are the best disproof of the statement of Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras in his letter to Macedonian counterpart Nikola Gruevski that the problem with the Macedonia’s integration was not in Athens but in Brussels, writes Macedonian Dnevnik daily.
According to Samaras, Greece backs Macedonia’s European integration but the European Union (EU) is the one to block country’s accession.
The newspaper comments further that in 2008 Athens claimed that it had not vetoed Macedonia’s membership in NATO and it was a matter of collective decision of the member states in the Alliance.
Three years later, Athens’ claim was refuted by the International Court of Justice in the Hague, which ruled in Macedonia’s favour.
