Greek Media reacts to latest Nimetz (US) proposal
Athens has shown concern over the Macedonia name issue after the new proposal that mediator Matthew Nimetz presented to countries' negotiations Tuesday in New York.
According to diplomatic sources cited in several Greek media, the proposal covers all aspects, including a name with geographical qualifier, most probably "Upper Macedonia".
With regards to Greece's condition of a name for all uses, the sources claim the new proposal says it would have "the broadest use possible".
The problem for the Greek side is that although the name includes a geographical qualifier, it comes before term Republic, not Macedonia.
Upper UN sources say, "the existence of a geographic qualifier in the name is of strategic significance".
