Athens would accept name not touching upon Greek history
Greece would agree to a name not touching upon its history, said Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Tsiaras during his visit to Australia.
According to him, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs "has recently undertaken certain initiatives", such as the memorandum of understanding that Athens sent to Skopje.
"It is clear that the Macedonian side is not budging", Tsiaras told representatives of the Greek diaspora in Australia.
He stressed that Macedonia did not obtain a date for start of EU accession talks due to "certain reasons", with the Union report explaining in detail the goals that need to be met for start of the negotiations.
"One of those points is the name issue settlement with Greece. We are in a good position regarding the settlement of all these issues. This is the reality", added Tsiaras.
He said Greece respected international regulations by maintaining that the issue would be resolved under UN auspices.
