Macedonia continues to be main topic in debt stricken Greece

Ordinary Greeks can no longer pay phone, electricity, water bills nor can they afford to purchase medications or go to the hospital. For Greek politicians, none of this is an issue, the biggest problem for them is what to do when one of their politicians is brave enough to distance themselves from official line and speak publicly about it.

For two days the ruling Greek government has scolded Ioanna Gaitani of Syriza for something she said in a recent interview. Speaking to both Macedonian and Greek newspapers she said it is Greece's radical politicians and businessmen who are to be blamed for the name dispute. She also dared to call Macedonia as the rest of the world calls it, Macedonia.

"I think the name is not the only problem. If it was that simple, then I don't think there would have been any issues. Hidden behind the name issue is the expansion of Greece's economy. Greece is attempting to become a Balkan super-power expanding across the entire peninsula. The reasons behind this name dispute can be found within the interests of Greek capitalists in Macedonia. The name dispute is just an alibi, a distraction used to hide the other things that are happening" stated Gaitani in her interview.

Gaitani also called Greek politicians servants to the banksters.

ND’s Political Secretary Manolis Kefaloyiannis criticized Gaitani’s comments as “historically ignorant and dangerous” and called SYRIZA’s leadership to take a stand and denounce it.

Ioanna Gaitani doesn't seem phased from the attacks from ND and Golden Dawn. Recently she phoned in during a debate on Greek television to respond to attacks from the ruling government. Without mentioning why the attacks came, Gaitani told the host that "lies and distortion of the truth is a well preserved tradition for right wing politicians in the country".
