Vecer: EU wants Greece to lift veto on Macedonia
Greek government has received a request from the EU to unblock the launching of Macedonia’s EU accession talks in December, writes Macedonian Vecer daily.
Anonymous Greek diplomatic sources told the Greek Radikal newspaper that the EU wants Greece to allow the start of the negotiations with Macedonia without having a solution to the name issue. According to the Greek newspaper, EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule has told Reuters that Macedonia may start the EU accession talks without having solved the name row with Greece.
According to former Macedonian foreign minister Denko Malevski, it is hard to believe that Greece has been “blackmailed”, neither was it really possible for Athens to dare giving up on the veto.
