UMD Organises Tribune on Minority Situation in Greece
The tribune “The Rise of Extremism in Greece and Its Impact on Minorities,” organised in Washington by the United Macedonian Diaspora, saw the country being criticised for its treatment of minorities, the rise of nationalist parties and the increasing number of attacks on immigrants and minorities. Representatives of the Macedonian, Cham-Albanian and Turkish communities in Greece and experts discussed their personal experiences and researches on violation of human and minority rights by the Greek authorities. “I would like to say that we have no problem with the Greek people. We live together, we have fun together. The Greek church causes the problem, as do politics and most of all, the Greek secret police,” Archimandrite Nikodim Tsarknias pointed out.
