Greek Film Makers in Uproar against Athens

A Greek bid to blackmail Swiss Film Festival backfired this weekend, after official Athens via its Ambassador in Switzerland requested films from Macedonia present at the Festival in Lugano change the country of origin using the acronym. Officials at the "Other Movie" Film Festival refused Athens' request, which resulted in the removal of 5 movies from Greece and 2 from Cyprus.

This however infuriated Greek Film Makers who worked hard on their movies to see them removed from the Swiss Festival without even being consulted by the Greek Government. Director and producer Vasilis Mazomenos was stunned. In an interview with Macedonian Kanal5 called the decision of his Government 'bizarre and fascist'.
"We are working on this films for years, and we are the last to find out our movies were removed from the Festival without any sort of consultation with us.  This fascist move will need to be explained from the boss of Greek Diplomacy.

When everything you have done is bad, when you have done nothing with the economy then you begin to play games, and maybe you'll save your political life... but to remove Greek films from an international festival because of nationalistic reasons, you simply don't have the right, because the films don't belong to them", says Mazomenos, adding a post on his social media page entitled "Government censorship protects you from reality".

At the festival in Lugano there are Macedonian films from Goce Cvetanovski, Kosara Mitic and Eleonora Veninova.
