Kelam:It is high time say to Greece “It’s enough!”

The MEPs from the group “Friends of Macedonia” announced that Greece during its Presidency of the European Union would have to answer many questions. Some of them are why Greece do not respect and continue the enlargement process of the European Union, how and why they do not respect the decision of the International Court of Justice in favor of Macedonia?

The group “Friends of Macedonia” is prepared to ask these questions. Special Rapporteur Richard Howitt and the Commission for several years have positive view for Macedonia and there is official recommendation to start the negotiations. Macedonia has a chance to become an even better candidate than some other EU countries. We can not feel the Europe complete without Macedonia, and the solution will be found, said the MEP from Estonia, Tunne Kelam.

The German MEP Martin Kastler said it is a shame what is happening to Macedonia and the Macedonian people.

- The European Parliament urges the Council and the Commission to start the formal negotiations with the Macedonians. We will fight and when Greece assumes the presidency, they will have to give answers. This will be pressure on the Greek government, said Kastler.

MEP Kelam added that there are no specific mechanisms to force a member state not to block the membership of the other, but stressed that the time has come to say to Greece “It’s enough.”

It is high time the Member States to say to Greece “It’s enough” and put pressure on the Member State, said Kelam.

Both MEPs today had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Poposki, where they discussed about the high-level activities after the accessible dialogue related to the opportunities for advancement, as well as Macedonia’s preparations for negotiations with the European Union.
