Athens launches frontal attack on international law

The Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras sent Evangelos Venizelos in New York to confirm to Ban Ki – moon that they have no intention of resolving the name dispute with Macedonia. Greece definitely throws away the Interim Agreement.

Last night In New York the Secretary- General of the United Nations Ban Ki – moon met with the Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign affairs Evangelos Venizelos, the Greek delegation leader at this year’s General Assembly of the World Organization .

According to a brief statement from the Ban Ki – moon’s office, the name dispute was the head topic of discussion.

- Both sides exchanged views on the prospects for resolving the name dispute between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, including the outcomes of the recent visit of Matthew Nimetz, as declared in the statement.

Venizelos in the name dispute discussion with Ban Ki-moon stated the well-known Greek red lines i.e. demand a name with a geographical determinant Erga Omnes.

Secretary-General is very well informed of our proposal. Our national position is very clear and supported by most of the political forces in Greece. We demand mutually acceptable composite name with a geographical determinant: Erga Omnes. Finally, clear and functional solution, stressed Venizelos after the meeting with Ki-moon and Nimitz, as stated in “Utrinski”.

With this statement he practically openly announced that Greece has no plans of unfreezing their attitudes towards the name dispute until they see realization of their requests.

It was not announced whether the representatives of the Macedonian and Greek delegation in New York will meet. The Macedonian delegation is led by the Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Poposki .

There are also no confirmed meetings with the mediator Matthew Nimetz.

Today in New York, EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Füle meets with United Nations mediator Matthew Nimetz for the Greek- Macedonian name dispute.

The European Commission has not disclosed whether the EU Enlargement Commissioner and the UN mediator will discuss new possible proposal to resolve the name dispute. Stefan Füle intends to assess the situation in order to know whether to propose something similar for the negotiations start on 16th October (when he delivers the report for Macedonia) in order to solve the name dispute imposed by Greece.
