Ivanov: Greek Politicians Have Built Careers around Name dispute

Macedonia has been always constructive, contributing to finding a mutually acceptable solution to the name issue, President Gjorge Ivanov told reporters on Tuesday.
UN mediator Matthew Nimetz pointed out in his statement yesterday that Macedonia had been committed to resolving the 15-year-standing matter, Ivanov said.

"We expect for the other party to demonstrate the same commitment and constructiveness, but unfortunately there have been no positive trends lately in that regard...We don't see that Greece is suffering because Macedonia is not part of NATO and the European Union," Ivanov said.
He doesn't considers that now Macedonia-Greece division over the name issue is at its peak, which is confirmed by the relations of citizens of both countries.

"The situation on the ground, between common citizens of Macedonia and Greece is completely different. Fears and prejudices from the past are fading away. You can feel that when visiting Greece. The name problem is being created by political elites, using it for political goals. Some Greek politicians have built their careers by keeping the matter unresolved. We should consider all aspects as we are the ones to suffer because Greece has a problem with our name. We have no problem nor need to convince anybody who we are, as we know who and what we are," Ivanov said.
