MACEDONIAN-GREEK BUSINESS FORUM HELD IN VERIA, GREECE

A 40-strong business delegation of the regional chambers of commerce based in Skopje, Prilep and Bitola has met with businessmen from the Greek region of Imathia, Macedonia's Economic Chamber says.

Attended by representatives of Macedonian and Greek companies, the business forum in Veria (Greece) prompted an exceptional interest in the Greek business sector.

The event was also attended by Macedonian general consul to Thessaloniki, Tomislav Dimitrovski and trade advisor at the Greek Liaison Office to Macedonia, Mezeridu Fauva.

The Agropolis project - an initiative for boosting the cooperation between companies from Western Balkan countries in the field of agronomy - was presented before businessmen.

The goal of the project is to advance and unite the regional agricultural offer and improve export opportunities. The initiative is to pave the way for regional countries to promote their agricultural products in Southeastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

"Companies from the both sides of the border focus only on the economic interest. Solely an intensive business cooperation can prompt progress in the region to exit the crisis," said Blagoj Stojcev - chairman of the Bitola-based Regional Chamber - who led the Macedonian business delegation.

Total trade exchange between Macedonia and Greece in 2010 was $693,7 million. Greece last year was Macedonia's second trade partner seen globally.
