Greek Political Party Leader on Name Issue
“There are OECD member-states that recognise the country as Macedonia. That is a big problem and we’ve missed a huge opportunity,” Stavros Theodorakis, the leader of the Greek political party Potami, said at an event in Serres, Greece. At the event, he was asked to comment on “Skopje’s use of the name Macedonia”. Reiterating that many countries around the world recognised Macedonia’s constitutional name, he stressed that a geographical qualifier, but not another type, was a brave political move, adding that Skopje should be pressured into accepting the name North Macedonia. According to him, Greece shouldn’t “close its eyes” because it could face the same problem with other areas in the future.
