Dnevnik, Macedonia: Greek customs officers become as corrupted as the Bulgarian

Skopje. The Greek customs officers started resembling the Bulgarian ones, comments Macedonian Dnevnik daily.
According to the newspaper, with the deepening of the economic crisis, the border police officers, and mostly the customs officers, are becoming more and more corrupted. This has been confirmed by drivers and road carriers, who are frequently crossing the border.
The newspaper cited a report by the Transparency International, which says that the corruption index of Greece was 3.4, which is almost as high as the corruption index of Bulgaria – 3.3.
Kosovo turns to be the most corrupted country in the Balkans with 2.9, while Macedonia got 3.9.
“In contrast to Bulgaria, where there are mass operations against corrupted customs officers and where some 32 corrupted employees were arrested last month, Greece does not take such measures in Greece. Since 2005 until 2011 Greek authorities have arrested only 9 customs officers,” Dnevnik reads further.
