To Vima: Turkey, Holland, Canada unsuccessful in lobbying for Macedonia
Greek daily To Vima in today's edition says Turkey had failed to initiate a communication in which the recent Hague judgment would be part of the conclusion at the NATO Summit. Turkey wished to officially stamp the ICJ decision in which Greece's blocking of Macedonia entering NATO was illegal.
Turkey's lobbying was supported by Canada, Holland, Slovenia and other nations who strongly backed Macedonia, states To Vima.
However, the US came to Greece's rescue who insisted this type of communication should be avoided at a time when Greece is fragile, its economy is on the verge of collapse and is due for another elections. The US view was silently approved by NATO's General Secretary Anders Fog Rasmussen.
- When it comes to Skopje, things were happening behinid the scene, there was an attempt to change the decision from Bucharest. Thankfully, these attempts did not work, says Greece's Minister of Foreign Affairs Petros Molivyatis.
Henry Kissinger said it best - It's bad to have US as an enemy, but it's ten times worse to have it as a friend.
