Macedonian citizens should not suffer from Greece’s troubles, says minister

Macedonia deserves to progress on its way to the Eurointegration, said Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki during a debate dedicated to Macedonia in London, Macedonian Vecer daily writes.

According to the minister, the postponement of the start of the negotiations led to languishing of citizens’ trust.
In Poposki’s words, there are two myths connected to Macedonia.
The first one dates back to the declaration of independence, which says that the country has some territorial claims. This myth, however, has been rejected by the ties between the citizens of the two countries, as well as by the economic cooperation with Greece.
The second one is connected to the support to the EU and NATO membership, but almost 90% of the citizens want it to happen.
The head of the Macedonian diplomacy added that the country has implemented the reforms needed for the NATO accession and has received recommendations by the EC for launching the accession talks several times.
However, due to the name dispute the country is still outside these organisations. According to the minister, Greece’s problems should not worsen Macedonian citizens’ life.
