Macedonian & Greek Ministers quiet on Truck Blockade

Greece's blockade of Macedonian trucks is still in progress. Even though the Greek customs intensified the flow of trucks en route to Macedonia a few days ago, the new shift slowed it down again and caused a 16km line of trucks waiting to enter Macedonia. Truckers have been trying to cross the border in Evzoni for six days.

Neither Macedonian nor Greek authorities are willing to comment on what is going on and why only Macedonian trucks are singled out and halted on the border or redirected to poor alternative roads. The Greek officials unofficially claim this has become regular for this period of the year, when tourists have the advantage in traffic. The problem with this is, there are very few tourists and only Macedonian trucks are siingled out.

Truckers on the other hand believe that although politics is certainly involved, part of the blockade may be due to the dissatisfaction of Greek customs officers who saw their salaries slashed with the austerity measures.

Macedonian and Greek ministers are said to be working on finding a fast solution to the problem.
