WikiLeaks: Greece was penalised for vetoing Macedonia at NATO summit in Bucharest 2008
Greece was penalised due to requested veto at the NATO Summit in Bucharest in 2008 upon Macedonia's invitation for Alliance's membership whereat anger of the administration of George Bush slowed down Greece's joining the US Visa Waiver Program (travel without a visa), reads WikiLeaks's diplomatic cables.
As Ta Nea daily reports Tuesday, the penalty for Greece arrived from Bush's cabinet in Oct. 2008 and it happened at the moment when seven other countries joined the programme.
In such a way Greece was not among six European countries together with Republic of Korea to join the programme in Oct. 2008, step interpreted from Greece as political "penalty," Ta Nea daily reads.
