Macedonia is Macedonia!

"The name row is senseless, because Macedonia is Macedonia and it will always be Macedonia. You have no other name"
Alain Terrenoire, Head of the International Paneuropean Union

Paneuropean Union backs Macedonia's EU bid

Members of the European Parliament and representatives of European institutions with whom President Gjorge Ivanov held talks in Lindau, Germany, at the sidelines of the Paneuropean Union (PEU) summit are optimistic that Macedonia will soon become a member of the European Union.

"All of them are optimistic that Macedonia will join the Union in due time, because it belongs there. This is an excellent opportunity to establish contacts with members of the Paneuropean Union, who are friends of Macedonia using every opportunity to tell the truth about Macedonia. My meetings with MEPs focused on informing them about recent developments related to the elections, the name issue, Macedonia's perspectives and our efforts to join Europe as well as their activities to help us in meeting the objective," President Ivanov said.

Head of the International Paneuropean Union, Alain Terrenoire stated that Macedonia was on the right path towards swift EU integration. "At a time when the world is facing problems, the entire European family has to be in an alliance to defend the interests of Europe," he sressed.

"All the more reason for EU to integrate Macedonia and other SEE countries. Macedonia belongs in EU and we expect you there as soon as possible. The name row is senseless, because Macedonia is Macedonia and it will always be Macedonia. You have no other name," Terrenoire said.

The issue involving the visa liberalisation and its possible cancellation wasn't raised at meetings with MEPs.

"Macedonia has always been cooperative and takes the remarks into account. Institutions in Macedonia are taking measures to protect the visa liberalisation process," President Ivanov stated.

Speaking at the PEU summit, Ivanov said that Macedonia was "a natural and inseparable segment of the European culture and civilisation, because 12 centuries ago the Macedonian apostles Cyril and Methodius had given their contribution to the European culture and civilisation."

"Macedonia in the EU sees a collection of states that led by their joint values managed to overcome hatred, antagonism and misunderstandings from the past in a bid to build their common future. Only united Europe can be a deserving leader of freedom and well-being," Ivanov said.

Moreover, the President was interviewed by Die Tagespost - a German Catholic newspaper - which coincided with his upcoming visit to Vatican to commemorate the Day of Saint Cyril.
